In 2004, the Foundation launched the Partnership for Ecologically Sustainable Coastal Areas (PESCA). This projects include: coral reef and coastal ecosystem restoration, sustainable fisheries management, conservation of endangered species, water quality monitoring, and the development of alternative livelihoods for local fishermen.
The Dominican Republic is the turistic destination with the fastest growth in the Caribbean mostly due to its mesmerizing coastal ecosystems. Puntacana, by far the most popular touristic destination in the DR, is home to one of the largest barrier reefs and also critical breeding grounds for pelagic and reef fish.
Recently the president of the grupo Puntacana, Frank Rainieri, was called to the stand to mention PESCA during the CLINTON GLOBAL INITIATIVE LATIN AMERICA, an event held in Brazil, as part of our sustainable commitment.
