We have emphasized a lot of the more traditional sports on this blog. In fact, we have written at length about golf, tennis, and basketball. Obviously, we have no shortage of love for sports here at Puntacana, but we haven’t spent quite as much time on some of the more often overlooked sports here on the island. In fact, due to the unique condition of our beaches, which features flat, waist deep waters and steady trade winds, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic is the perfect location to learn one of the fastest growing sports in the world. I’m talking, of course, about kiteboarding or kitesurfing. Despite growing in popularity, it is possible that you are unfamiliar with kitesurfing or are only experiencing it for the first time in the video at the top of this post. If so, you are in for a treat. Kiteboarding combines all of the best aspects of surfing with the extreme addition of a kite. I will repeat that because it is awesome: kiteboarding is basically surfing with a parachute. Here’s how it works: that kite that you see in the video harnesses the power of the wind to propel the board. You control the board and the kite to ride, turn, and eventually jump, fly, and do tricks. Kiteboarding is easier than ever to learn at Puntacana thanks in no small part to Kite Club Punta Cana, a school that teaches kitesurfing lessons enthusiasts of all levels. Never been on a board before in your life? We have private and semi-private beginner’s classes that are just the thing to get you started with the sport. Looking to brush up on your technique and take your surfing to the next level with a Level 2 IKO instructor? We can arrange that as well. All of the classes are overseen by Jon Dodds, an IKO Training Master and Examiner. For all of the experienced kiteboarders out there reading this, Kite Club offers kitesurfing equipment rentals at competitive prices. The only requirement for renting equipment is that you are IKO Level 3 certified. Furthermore, anyone seeking IKO certification can get that here. Kite Club Punta Cana is located on Playa Blanca at Puntacana Resort & Club and was the first IKO certified kitesurfing school in the region. Come play with us.
