Our beloved Oscar de la Renta celebrated his 82nd birthday last Tuesday. This Dominican legend was born in Santo Domingo, our country’s capital, to later become one of the greatest Fashion Designers of all time. After moving to Madrid as a young adult, Oscar’s aspirations changed from wanting to be an abstract painter to a fashion designer. His illustrations and love for fashion became obvious to industry professionals and soon after Oscar landed an apprenticeship with Cristobal Balenciaga, Spain’s most renowned couturier and the rest is history (literally). ![]() After gaining creditability and immense success in the world of wearable art, Oscar decided to open his first Beachfront Boutique right here! Well there’s a bit more to the story actually. Oscar decided to build a second home on his native land (specifically in our very own stunning Corales community) after becoming a PUNTACANA partner, of course. Oscar has done everything from financing several projects to hosting his own Oscar de la Renta yearly Tennis Tournament (which draws a very fashionable crowd, past guest include Sofia Coppola and Anna Wintour), decorating our Tortuga Bay Hotel. This living legend has even accredited PUNTACANA Resort & Club’s beauty and environment for his inspiration behind a series of plate designs of the Oscar de la Renta Home Collection. Since November 2011 all guest and PUNTACANA residents have had the opportunity to shop at the Oscar de la Renta store located within PUNTACANA Resort & Club’s, Tortuga Bay Boutique Hotel. ![]() In an interview with Architectural Digest Oscar tells the journalist that the store’s “inspiration came from a very small potting shed in the garden” of their Corales home. The article goes on to describe the store as a “chic hexagonal emporium at Tortuga Bay, a boutique hotel he co-developed seven years ago at the blue-chip Puntacana Resort & Club. With French doors facing the azure Caribbean, the pale coral-rock structure shelters enticing ensembles for tropical revels—in addition to Oscar de la Renta Home mainstays such as Art Deco–inflected picture frames and nesting tables clad in shimmering mother-of-pearl.” I cite because I couldn’t have said it better myself. Come on by to check out the exclusive PUNTACANA collection items or to simply enjoy the scenery. This boutique is where Caribbean Casual meets luxury. For more information please visit our website
