As you have probably noticed from the last few weeks, we take anniversaries very seriously around here, and the 45th is a big one for us. While we looked at the "Grupo PUNTACANA With The Community" Project last week, something that we are very proud of, I would like to talk a little about... something else that we are proud of around here: our airport. One aspect of our 45 year celebration that we haven’t covered yet is the new terminal opening at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). As you may remember from the 45 years of history we recounted a couple of weeks ago, Punta Cana International opened in 1984 and has been an important hub for travel in the Caribbean ever since. In fact, Punta Cana International is the most popular airport for arrivals into the Dominican Republic and boasts over five million passengers yearly. Despite this, however, it was not quite big enough nor special enough for guests of the PUNTACANA Resort. That is why, as part of our 45th anniversary celebrations, we are unveiling the brand new Terminal B, which is slated to open on November 1, 2014. Terminal B will be able to comfortably accommodate 6,500 travelers daily and over two million travelers annually.
This new terminal, however, is not more of the same that you have come to expect from airports. Almost everything about Terminal B was designed with travelers in mind and will alleviate a lot of the headaches that we have come to associate with spending time in an airport. One of the nicest thing is the 50 ticketing counters that passengers will have access to, a great food court, duty free shopping, and a VIP lounge. Parents traveling with children will be able to make full use of our kid’s playground and give the kids something to do while they’re at the airport. One of my favorite features of the new Terminal B are the plentiful recharging areas for electronic equipment. It seems every time I travel there is a group of people huddled around one or two electrical outlets, but the design of Terminal B insures that I won’t ever have that experience at Punta Cana International. Since style without substance is not something we are interested in, Terminal B is also equipped with LED lights throughout its offices to lower energy consumption. A great convenience for travelers is the addition of Punta Cana International’s first air bridge. At Terminal B, passenger will disembark from their arriving aircraft through the air bridge and directly into the new terminal – without ever having to step foot outside. No more descending down clumsy stairs and walking across the tarmac; passenger arrive in style when they arrive at Terminal B. One of the things about Terminal B we are most looking forward to, however, is the inauguration ceremony that will take place on November 28, 2014. The ceremony itself is expected to be very well attended by local and foreign political members and dignitaries and will give Mr. Frank Rainieri an opportunity to discuss the new terminal at length. Mr. Rainieri has already said the following about the new terminal, “The new structure has been a labor of love and great anticipation for Grupo PUNTACANA and our valued guests of PUNTACANA Resort & Club. Our goals are to expand our air capacity and passenger ease to the region, while our mission remains deeply rooted in sustainability and energy savings throughout the facility,” and it will be an excellent opportunity for him to expound upon these thoughts and personally explain the importance of the new terminal. Above all else, the new terminal gives more guests access to Punta Cana. Terminal B will have carriers from all over the world, giving even more people access to our beautiful Dominican resort, and the wonderful atmosphere we have to offer. If you’ve been considering a trip to Punta Cana, it is only going to get that much easier in November. Here is a list of each Terminal's corresponding airlines

Is the new Terminal B fully enclosed, no access to the outside like you can in Terminal A? Thank you

I will be arriving on Sun Country airlines which according to the list is Terminal 1. So will we be unloading on the tarmac and getting on the usual shuttle to the thatched roof original terminal? I am confused?

We are using this page on Trip Advisor to list the airlines flying into each terminal. Unfortunately the list is already out of date.

Hi - Since Delta and United are both terminal B could we sit at one gate until one of us leaves and then go to the other gate. My sister and I will be on different flight and leaving at different times but want to be together as long as we can. Thank you
