SUN & FUN GOLF TOURNAMENT BENEFITS VERON’S AT-RISK CHILDREN

Golf Into Veron Program at La Cana Golf Course, PUNTACANA Resort & Club

While this will come as a shock to many of my friends in the US and Canada who are forced to contend with blizzards and freezing pipes, here at PUNTACANA we are gearing up for our annual Sun & Fun Golf Tournament on Saturday, March 21. This event promises both sun and fun, and best of all the proceeds from the tournament go to a great cause - helping the junior golf program for at-risk children in the nearby town of Veron. 

As our golf professional Heath Henrich tells us, “The Golf into Veron program was started by me and Jake Kheel. We had to use the money that was generated from this tournament towards Junior Golf and what better way to use it than to show kids, that probably would not have the chance to play golf, a sport that they can play for the rest of their lives.”  Mr. Henrich recently became only the second US Kids Certified Golf Coach in the entire Caribbean, and he certainly knows a thing or two about developing an interest in golf in kids. 

Though this tournament has only been held for the last five years, it has been a very productive five years of fundraising.  Since 2010, the tournament has raised over $50,000 for the junior golf program, and that’s not even counting 2015, which is sure to be another great year.  With this funding, Mr. Henrich has been able to purchase golf clubs, golf simulator, practice balls, hats, shirts, and many other wonderful things for the junior programs.  Best of all, he’s just getting started.  He let us know that he was planning to add weight training equipment to the shopping list in order to help our junior golfers reach their full potential.

Even more importantly, you can help these junior golfers reach their full potential by attending the tournament.  Whether you are looking to sponsor the tournament or just spend a day playing to help a good cause, we certainly have a sponsorship level that can accommodate you. All of our golfers will get to enjoy a fun best ball tournament, on course refreshments, and it will all be followed with dinner and dancing at that night’s trophy presentation.
