Format: DVD
Language: English

Film Synopsis: After Charles Darwin first visited the island archipelago of Galapagos in 1839, it took him another twenty years to decipher what he’d witnessed - the most perfectly preserved biodiversity on the planet. His theory of evolution, published 150 years ago, pulled back the curtain on a debate that had been simmering for years, and still percolates. Today, Darwin would be surprised by the tourist mecca Galapagos has become - 200,000 visitors a year and 40,000 permanent residents. The impact on the most unique collection of endemic wildlife in the world has been heavy; too many people bringing too many of their ways (and invasive species) from the outside world threatening the future of this one-of-a-kind place. What would Darwin think of how Galapagos has evolved in the twenty-first century?

Biography of Director Jon Bowermaster: Writer and filmmaker Jon Bowermaster's most recent documentary, SoLa, Louisiana Water Stories, focused on the lives of Southern Louisianans whose lives depend on the sea. Filming concluded with the BP oil spill in the Gulf, making it evermore relevant. Jon and his team’s latest films continue to garner praise. Terra Antarctica, documenting a six-week exploration of the Antarctic Peninsula by sail and sea kayak, won the Best Ocean Issues award from the Blue Ocean Film Festival. What Would Darwin Think? Man v. Nature in the Galapagos was awarded Best Environmental Film at the Vancouver International Film Festival. A six-time grantee of the National Geographic Expeditions Council, his 2007-2008 Antarctic trip was the final expedition in his OCEANS 8 project, which over the past decade has taken him and his teams around the world by sea kayak. Seeing the world from the seat of a sea kayak over the past decade has given Bowermaster a unique look at both the health of the world's oceans and the lives of the nearly 3 billion people around the globe who depend on them.

Man v.
